Ladyhawke

The flow of great music from down under continues with electro indie outfit Ladyhawke. I'm assuming the name is inspired by the 1985 fantasy movie of the same name (Rutger Hauer, Matthew Broderick and Michelle Pfieffer). This was one of the many "could have been great" fantasy movies from the 1980s that low budgets, bad scripting and terrible effects couldn't live up to.. anyone who has seen The Beast Master (1982) will know what I mean. Ladyhawke still took $18.4 million at the box office.. but compare that to the $79 million taken by Ferris Bueller's Day Off the following year you can see the lack of wider appeal.

Possibly the greatest thing about the tune My Delirium by Ladyhawke is the video (below); a fusion of Take On Me, Thelma and Louise with some 70s styling. Keep your eyes peeled for "Cat Rushmore" - very witty.

There really is a wealth of fantastic stuff coming from New Zealand and Australia at the moment.

I'm going to leave it at that for this mini-blog, it's a great tune and video combination. Did you know that whole episodes of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors are on YouTube?

Ciao.
